What should I do if my Alarm is Sounding?

Call Us to help you evaluate the cause of alarm and determine if a service call is required. Conserve water usage until the cause of the alarm can be determined. Remove cap from the plumbing clean out to help prevent sewage back up and possibly mute the alarm.

How should I Maintain my Septic?

For most of us when water goes down a drain, that is where we stop worrying about it.  If you are accustomed to having municipal sewer lines, septic system costs and functionality may be a concern of yours. To ensure you get the longest life possible from your septic system, there are a few things you should know.  Learning about your septic system can prevent the expense of repairs and prolong the life of your system.

  • Do not flush non-biodegradable materials such as plastics, disposable diapers, sanitary napkins and applicators, they rapidly fill up the tank and will clog the system.

  • Repair any leaking faucets and toilets.

  • Do not pour grease or cooking oils down the sink drain because they solidify.

  • Do not dump solvents, oils, paints, thinners, disinfectants, pesticides, or poisons down any drain. They disrupt the treatment process and contaminate groundwater.

  • Keep ants, plants and overgrown grass away from septic tank access and above ground mechanical components.

  • Do not dig in your drain field to plant, or plan on building additions, pools, driveways, or other construction work near the septic tank or drain field.

  • Have your septic tank pumped regularly and checked for leaks and cracks.

  • Call a professional when you have problems.

  • Do not drive over your septic system or drain field or compact the soil in any way, this could collapse or damage your lines, risers and even tank lids.

  • Do not put too much water into the septic system.  Try to be mindful of large gatherings. Large parties can easily overload the system.  To avoid any embarrassing hectic situations, have your system checked out before the holidays.

We have an extensive list of Do's and Don'ts with great alternative solutions available.

Sick Septic System Symptoms.

  • Sewage backup in your sink and tub drains or toilets. This can be a black liquid with a disagreeable odor.

  • Slow flushing of your toilets. Many of the drains in your house will drain much slower than usual, despite the use of plungers or drain cleaning products.

  • Surface flow of wastewater. Sometimes you will notice liquid seeping along the surface of the ground near your septic system.

  • Lush green grass over the absorption field, even during dry weather. Often, this indicates that an excessive amount of liquid from your system is moving up through the soil, instead of downward, as it should. While some upward movement of liquid from the drain field is good, too much could indicate a problem.

  • The presence of nitrates or bacteria in your drinking water well. This indicates that liquid from the system may be flowing into the well through the ground or over the surface. Water tests available from your local health department will indicate if you have this problem.

  • Unpleasant odors around your house. Often, an improperly vented plumbing system or a failing septic system causes a buildup of disagreeable odors around the house.

Anderson Septic Solutions can provide you with routine service inspections and system maintenance to help prevent most of the above symptoms.  If you are having any issues, please contact us below.
